Under the main design concept of three 'sharing' stories which 'double' the effect, the surrounding environment is connected in order to secure high levels of accessibility, as well as high levels of recognition. An open prospect is formed based on the ability and right to light through an arrangement that is oriented towards the south, as well as towards the nearby river and park. Moreover, the building design took into consideration organic connections between each floor program and designed a space with variability, allowing for multipurpose uses. A natural circulation is planned out between the Gasancheon River and the surrounding park and school by facilitating and promoting rest and relaxation based on an organic connection between the interior and exterior sides through the inclusion of separate decks located on the exterior of the building. The library formed an open space towards the river and park by securing the ability to light based on an arrangement that is oriented towards the south. We designed a variable space that allows for inter-program connection and multipurpose use. The Family Center features a volume plan that brings nature into the space, and it also considers the noise and shade levels within the periphery of school. We then formed a stereoscopic green network and planned an independent external space between the floors.
One of the main focal points of the arrangement plan as a whole was the ability to open and share spaces together. For this purpose, a wide yard, open to the city, was designed in the western part of the site. This created a new focal point at the urban avenue, which previously, only existed as a way to facilitate circulation throughout the site. A variety of activities and events can be carried out here, and in doing so, will help infuse a new sense of vitality into the urban avenue. The second main focal point is derived from the fact that various elements that form the fabric of the city can communicate with one another. For example, the city and surrounding nature are naturally connected by forming a series of exterior spaces that connect the city lying to the west and the Gasancheon River lying to the east. This way, a sense of vividness is infused into the city, providing a new and diverse range of experiences to be enjoyed by both visitors and residents alike. The third main focal point consists of forming a fresh, new forest in the middle of the city that goes beyond the limitations of a narrow site by creating a green space that exists at different levels via the stereoscopic expansion of the Children’s Park on the western side of the site.
