우정사업 경쟁력 제고 및 투자 사업 효율성 확보를 위한 새로운 이미지 확립을 위하여 '비상'이라는 콘셉트로 디자인 개념을 설정하였다. 이는 우체국 심벌을 형상화한 입면 디자인으로 형상화하여 '우정사업의 새로운 도약'이라는 상징 성과 마포구 공덕오거리에서 '랜드마크'로서의 상징성을 확보하였다. 대지 주변의 도시 컨텍스트와 연계가 가능한 접근성 높은 가로형 근린생활 시설을 지상 저층부에 배치하여 도심 속 소통의 공간으로 역할을 하도록 계획 하였다. 공개공지를 이동량이 많은 후면도로에 배치하여 주변과의 연계성을 강화하였고, 복층형 근린생활시설을 제안하여 매장의 쾌적성을 증진시키고 임대수익 향상을 기대하도록 계획하였다. 또한, 2층 근린생활시설에 직접 연결되는 계단을 설치하여 접근성을 고려한 입체적 근린생활시설을 계획 하였으며 전용률과 다양한 임대수요를 고려한 업무시설을 계획하였다. 뿐만 아니라, 다양한 환경 변화에 대응할 수 있는 최적의 실 깊이와 무주 공간을 계획하였다. 업무시설과 지원시설의 수평적 배치로 코어 효율을 극대화 하였고, 80%의 최적의 전용률로 최대 임대수익과 쾌적한 업무환경을 고려한 친환경 임대 국사를 구현하여 우정사업의 프로토타입을 제시하였다. "Soaring" is the new concept driving the design of the Mapo Post Office in order to establish a new image that increases competition of postal business, as well as increasing the efficiency of investment business. An additional focus is placed on the improvement of postal services for the people, as well as a focus on the active development of postal business, a national property, which is developed in line with the changes that occur in the business environment, as well as the leased land that can generate new income. By developing a building elevation which is emblematic of the postal office symbol, the building’s facade design ensured its symbolic meaning as "a new leap of postal service", as well as a landmark at the Gongdeok intersection in Mapo-gu. Highly accessible street-type neighborhood facilities are able to connect with the surrounding urban context around the site, and are located on the lower floors to better serve as a communicative space located at the heart of the city. Placing a public open space on the rear road, where there is a large amount of circulation around the site, increases the building’s connectivity with its surroundings. And the multi-story neighborhood facilities were proposed to improve both the comfort of the stores themselves and to increase rental income. In addition, the plan presented dimensional neighborhood facilities that take into consideration accessibility, with installed stairs which are directly linked to the neighborhood facilities on the second floor. Business facilities were designed conforming to an optimal exclusive-use rate, as well as diverse rental demand. To keep up with different changes in this environment, the ideal room depth and ownerless spaces were taken into great consideration. The horizontal arrangement of business and support facilities was laid out in order to maximize core efficiency. With 80 percent of exclusive-use rate, the design of eco-friendly leased postal facilities which consider maximizing rental income, as well as creating a comfortable business environment, has set a new benchmark for postal businesses.
