The Pyeongtaek Dangjin International Passenger Terminal is planned as a place to cultivate marine culture by providing a lively atmosphere with the motif of the dynamically undulating wave of the sea. With the integrated lobby open to the sea, we implemented a quick and convenient arrival and departure system by separating the arrival and departure floors and planning to segregate the arrival and departure routes. We also separated the arrival and departure sections and the baggage handling facilities by lobby, and built a convenient baggage route by linking the baggage handling facilities with the cargo parking lot. A wide entry plaza was planned so that pedestrians could approach the terminal in a more natural manner, and the drop-off zone for employees and VIPs, as well as the service parking for cargo deliveries, was also planned to be as convenient as possible. A vehicle entrance was planned on the left side of the site to facilitate customs inspections of unloading processes, as well as handling management vehicles entering the apron.
The arrival section and baggage handling facilities are located on the 1st floor, the departure hall and the restaurant are located on the 2nd floor, and the office and meeting spaces are located on the 3rd floor. This arrangement was done in order to functionally link the movement around the integrated lobby, which provides the visitor’s first grand impression of the sea. A large luggage reclaim counter, as well as a quarantine animal and plant counter, were both separately installed to reflect the characteristics of the high amount of baggage per person, as well as many reports of agricultural and marine products from the high ratio of small business people. We also planned for travelers departing from the terminal to be able to enjoy open ocean views from the lobby and departure lounge. Through this layout, the arrival route is focused on speediness, and the departure route can be based around both convenience and openness. The restaurant is directly connected to the departure lounge, and it can be used as a place to eat and relax if departure times are ever delayed for whatever reason. The related organizations and their inhabitants possess access to the offices using private entrances and cores, and these individuals can observe the port for themselves, as well. The two offices are adjacent to each other and can communicate and cooperate with one another in case of emergency, and employees can relax in the spacious relaxing garden located in the center. The Event Hall can be used for a variety of different types of meetings and conferences, which were previously held at The Marine Center, and waiting spaces for group travelers are also provided, which contribute towards creating a more public atmosphere through the encouragement and hosting of various cultural events.
